Philosophy
At Selwyn Community Childcare Centre (SCCC), we hold a fundamental belief in the inherent capabilities, curiosity, and rich potential of all children. Our philosophy centers around providing a positive and inclusive early learning environment, fostering positive interactions among children, parents, and staff. We are committed to nurturing the overall health and development of each child—socially, cognitively, emotionally, physically, and linguistically. Our dedicated staff at SCCC is devoted to supporting children in acquiring lifelong skills such as caring for others, understanding diverse perspectives, cooperation, sharing, and resolving conflicts in a respectful manner.
In alignment with our philosophy, we emphasize that meaningful play is the cornerstone of learning for all children. Our team of Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) collaborates with assistant staff to create play-based experiences and activities. These activities, rooted in ongoing observations and documentation of children's play and interactions, support individualized learning. Our programs create environments that encourage children's inquiry, exploration, discovery, and interactions, fostering optimal learning in a warm, safe, healthy, and accepting atmosphere. We prioritize indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest, and quiet time, tailoring our approach to the unique needs of each child.
Furthermore, we recognize the uniqueness of every individual—both children and adults—and their contributions to the program, family, and extended community. Our commitment to promoting a sense of belonging involves building strong, respectful, and open communicative relationships with families and local community partners. We firmly believe that a close partnership between home and school is crucial during a child's early learning years. Finally, to ensure the continual provision of high-quality childcare, we encourage all staff at SCCC to engage in continuous professional learning and development.
